Men’s Fellowship

  The Why

Scripture exhorts the men in the church to be in fellowship with one another for the purposes of building each other up (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Veritas Church believes in the whole of scripture, that it is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Because God’s word equips us, we are able to exhort one another in Spirit and in truth, and Solomon speaks truly: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17).

  The What

We believe that men are called to discipleship and fellowship, formal and informal (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 14:27, 2 Timothy 2:2, Ephesians 4:11-17). We wish to create a space for men to speak into the lives of other men, and for younger men to hear from those who are older (and wiser) on what it means to walk with Christ daily (Proverbs 19:20). Paul had Timothy, and Timothy had Paul. We believe this is a strong model for how Christ builds up his church corporately through individuals. God uses men strong in the Lord to build a church that is strong in the Lord.

  The How

At Veritas, we do this in many ways. One way in which we encourage each other is through our monthly Men’s Fellowship meetings. These are typically in the early morning, at the church at 6:30 AM on the second Saturday of each month. Sometimes these dates change, so please check the Event Calendar to verify we are meeting on a particular date. It is typically a culturally-relevant topical discussion, and we may reading an article, an excerpt from a book, a passage from scripture, or some other source of material. This is not a formal bible study. Even though it is not a bible study, it is a time to speak with other men about what it means to live as a Christian, and how the truths of the Bible apply to the problems and opportunities we face in daily life.

  The Who

We invite all men from all walks of life into fellowship with each other, and this is a good way to get to know some of the other men at Veritas. Because this is when the rooster is crowing, we also like to eat breakfast at this time. You may expect doughnuts, coffee, eggs, sausage, and the greatest of all new covenant foods: bacon. And if you’re willing, you can always bring something to share with everyone else. Above all, we wish to glorify God within our church community, and seek to fulfill 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
