What is a Christian?
Simply put, a Christian is a follower (or “disciple”) of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we follow Jesus because He is the one who loved us and gave himself for us (this is the good news of The Gospel). As the Apostle Paul says in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
What Does it Mean to Follow Christ – to Live by Faith in the Son of God?
A Christian is one who knows God, trusts Him, treasures Him, obeys Him, and proclaims Him.
A Christian knows God, and wants to know him more, and is therefore devoted to prayerful communion with God, and right views of Him based in Scripture.
Because a Christian believes what he has come to learn of God, he no longer leans on his own understanding or abilities or resources, but relies fully on God for life and salvation.
Knowing and trusting God produces pure joy in a Christian, and leads to a delight in God above all created things.
Rooted in a deep heart of gratitude, a Christian desires to turn from sin and obey Christ as King.
As well, rooted in a deep heart of gratitude, a Christian desires to see the truth and treasure of God (the “gospel”) spread locally as well as globally.
